Responsive websites for the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority
Project Duties
UX
UI
The Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority provide information both to the general public and to approximately 4,000 (MPs and their staff).
The needs of these audiences are quite different but we started work on a portal to provide information for MPs.
Laying the foundation
I joined the team after during stakeholder research and initial information architecture and wireframe work to understand how we could create a site whose information architecture and navigation matched end users’ mental models. This allowed us to start creating a product that felt intuitive to use and navigate.
With a clear idea of what we required, I started by creating a set of reusable patterns in Sketch.
Screen designs
The focus was on allowing MPs to get the information they needed as easily as possible. Multiple levels of the information architecture are available from the Home page and imagery was kept to a minimum.
Next steps
The second part of the project was to create a customer facing version of the site.
I led a Workshop with stakeholders where we decided that the public facing site should feel like a cousin of the MPs website, with similar design patterns but some extra visual appeal and variety on high level pages to reflect it's public facing role.
